(Updated) There will be a second round.

The first round of the presidential election took place in Poland today, May 18. At 22:00 Minsk time, polling stations closed across the country.

According to the Ipsos exit polls for TVN, TVP and Polsat channels, the Civic Coalition candidate Rafal Trzaskowski is leading in the first round with a minimal margin of 30.8%, while the second place goes to the Law and Justice candidate Karol Nawrocki with 29.1%.

Third place goes to the leader of the "Confederation" Slavomir Menczen with 15.4%.

Fourth unexpectedly was the anti-Ukrainian candidate Grzegorz Braun - 6.2%, the candidate of the "Together" party Andrian Zandberg - 5.2%, the speaker of the Polish Sejm Szymon Golownia - 4.8%, the candidate of the "Left" Magdalena Beyat - 4.1%.

Polish opinion polls are considered fairly accurate: in the 2023 parliamentary elections, the discrepancy between the polling averages and the actual results was less than 1%.

The preliminary results of the first round will be known by the morning of May 19, while the final results will be known before Tuesday.
