Belgium May Hand Over Fighter Jets To Ukraine Sooner Than Expected

Belgium will try to provide Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets earlier than planned.

Belgian Defense Minister Theo Franken said this before a meeting of the EU foreign ministers in Belgium, Radio Liberty reported.

"As for the F-16s - we already are and will remain in the coalition on F-16s, and we will try to deliver the planes even earlier than a certain date. I think this is also good news," he emphasized.

At the same time, Franken did not specify the date of delivery of the fighters to Ukraine.

In early March, Belgian Prime Minister Bart de Wever said that the transfer of F-16 aircraft to Ukraine is postponed until 2026.

The reason for the delay is Belgium's expectation of new F-35 aircraft to replace the existing F-16s. However, de Wever did not specify when exactly the country would receive the F-35 fighters.
