We're talking about 200,000 people.
The U.S. administration has developed a plan to spend 250 million dollars intended for foreign aid on the return of migrants who have arrived in the United States from active combat zones. It is, in particular, about 200,000 Ukrainian and 500 thousand Haitian refugees. About it writes The Washington Post with reference to internal documents.
It is noted that this proposal was developed even before the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced on May 5 that immigrants who voluntarily "self-deport" to their countries will be able to receive a payment of $1,000 from the U.S. government.
The publication recalled that previous U.S. administrations have also supported the use of taxpayer funds for the voluntary repatriation of migrants. However, it stressed, President Donald Trump's proposal is special because it concerns people who have fled dangerous regions and seems intended to bypass the International Organization for Migration (IOM), which is affiliated with the UN and usually coordinates such returns.
This plan also coincides with the Trump administration's intentions to cut foreign aid, specifically to dismantle the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and end 80 percent of its programs, including those that served Ukraine, Haiti and other troubled countries.
