Sobolenko Unexpectedly Decided To Play In A Mixed Match

The Belarusian chose the ex-boyfriend of Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams to perform in the pairing.

The organizers of the US Open have unveiled the list of 14 duos that will take part in the mixed doubles tournament.

The world number one Arina Sobolenko is among the tennis players.

The Belarusian will return to doubles play and will play alongside 34-year-old Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov. In addition to his success in tennis, he is known for dating former world number one Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams early in his career.

The mixta competition will be held in 2025 a week before the singles tournament, from August 19 to 20.

The format of the matches will be different from the classical one: the first two sets will be played up to four winning games without the over/under rule, and at the score of 4:4 there will be a tie-break.

In case of a tie in the sets, the deciding match will be a super tie-break of up to 10 points.

The final match of the tournament will be played according to more traditional rules: up to six games in the first two sets, and also without the over/under.
