It is important for the West to continue its military support for Ukraine.
The European Union and the United States need to maintain their unity to give a "convincing answer" to Russia's dictator Vladimir Putin from the West. This was stated by former German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel while on a visit to Prague. Her words are quoted by Hospodářské noviny.
Merkel arrived in Prague to present her memoir "Freedom," which goes on sale in Germany at the end of November 2024. At the press conference, Merkel was asked whether a lasting peace with Russia was possible. She responded by pointing out the importance of keeping the West as it is. "The best solution and the strongest answer to Putin would be to keep the United States and Europe united," she replied.
Merkel also stressed that Western countries should continue to support Ukraine and strengthen its defense capabilities even after the conflict is over. "A lasting peace with Putin is only possible if Ukraine is strong. Putin perfectly understands the language of strength," she said.
As Hospodářské noviny recalls, Merkel wrote in her memoirs that she "lost trust" in Putin after the occupation of Crimea.
