Italy's Defense Minister Says 'growing Russian Threat'

Russia could pose a military threat to NATO in the next five years.

Russia could become a direct threat to NATO within the next five years, Italian Defense Minister Gvido Crozetto told lawmakers following a NATO summit in The Hague, Reuters reported.

"Allies share concerns about the growing threat from Russia. There is no indication that Russian production will be redirected to civilian targets, even in the event of a ceasefire," Crozetto said.

Crozetto also commented on NATO member states' decision to increase defense spending to 5 percent of GDP by 2035. He noted that Italy has already made certain budget allocations and has no plans to divert resources from health care or pensions.
